Web3 for UWE FinTech Students

Appmilla CEO James discusses Blockchain and Web3 in practice for UWE students

Appmilla's CEO James Guest recently had the pleasure of sharing his journey into crypto and Web3 with University of the West of England Fintech students.

James discussed how he’s a true believer in the possibility this technology has to improve financial inclusion globally and has been running R&D, development, and project teams in the space for over 5 years. He described how his passion for the topic is fueled by both a deep interest in finance and economics combined with over 26 years of experience working in tech.

The lecture covered the fundamental properties of Blockchain, Smart Contracts, and Web3, and how these technologies are transforming the Fintech industry. James highlighted many use cases, including money, remittances, crowdfunding, tokenization of digital and physical assets, DeFi, DAOs, business contracts, revenue and royalty sharing, and more. The lecture also touched on some challenges of working with Web3, such as gas costs, security concerns and audits, speed and stability of the networks – and the need and complexity of tracking everything for tax purposes, a challenge in itself!

I could talk about Web3 and Crypto all day. The potential this technology has to disrupt, change and improve the lives of many is mind blowing. It’s so exciting to be a part of this industry” – James Guest, CEO.

James also discussed how Web3 technology has the potential to revolutionize the financial industry, but that it’s clear it won’t be able to replace traditional financial systems completely in the near future. Therefore, seamless integration between Web3 tech and fiat currencies, existing payment rails, and international regulations is crucial. This will enable individuals and businesses to easily transition between Web3 and traditional financial systems, and it will also help to mitigate any potential regulatory challenges that could arise. In short, a successful transition to Web3 requires a collaborative effort between innovators and traditional financial institutions to ensure that the technology can be integrated into existing financial infrastructure in a way that is safe, secure, and compliant with global regulations. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done in these areas – but the space is rapidly advancing.

The talk was a resounding success. The students were engaged throughout the lecture and were impressed by James’ in-depth knowledge and experience in the field. The talk was very well received, with many of the students expressing their enthusiasm for the potential of Web3 technology to transform the financial industry. James was thrilled with the positive response and hopes to have the opportunity to return and speak with the students again in the future.

“James is very energetic and passionate in his sharing. His presentation is very informative and particularly useful for my Blockchain students. I am looking forward to seeing James and learning more about his projects in the future.” – Tat-Thanh (Frank), Fintech lecturer at the University of the West of England, UWE Bristol.
